About 300 graduates of the faculty that have studied at the full-time and part-time departments now work in the preschool institutions, colleges, lyceums, secondary and higher educational institutions, organizations and enterprises in the sphere of recreation and tourism.
The staff of the department together with the Institute of Recreation and Tourism of SCOPLIPE created a new State educational standard of higher professional education for the specialty "recreational and sports tourism". It happened for the first time in the worldwide educational sphere in late 2001.
The standard was recognized and approved by more than thirty universities in Russia and Europe and also on three international congresses (Moscow, 2003; Alma-Ata, 2004; Kiev, 2005), dedicated to the Olympic "Sport for all" movements.
In accordance with this standard, students of the department study the following disciplines:
regional studies, bio rhythmology, recreation, balneology, a foreign language, theory and methodology of cultural and leisure activities, video- and photo activities, excursion business, marketing, management and economy of recreation and tourism.
The department has 14 candidates of pedagogical and medical sciences, 2 professors, 6 associate professors. It invites highly qualified specialists from other universities, fitness centers and travel agencies.
In the last 10 years, 12 Ph.D. theses have been defended and about 100 scientific and methodical works were published, including 2 monographs, 15 methodical guides and recommendations, and about 20 learning programs. The work was done by professors of our department, post-graduate students and those, who work on the problem of recreation, sports and health tourism.
The department was established on February 1, 1996 in order to bring the Russian education system closer to the global model of specialists’ training with higher education.
The department conducts scientific work in several areas:
Over the past 5 years, the department has produced 9 candidates and 1 doctor of science, including such professors as Konyukhov G., Britvina V. and Ivannikov G. The research is carried out by 1 doctoral student, 2 post-graduate students and 2 candidates of science.
Training sessions are held both in traditional forms - lectures and seminars - as well as in specific, tested on practice forms - for instance, by doing some calculation and graphic work (physics, mathematics and computer science).
For topics not sufficiently studied in the course of traditional studies there has been developed an independent work. Professors of the department constantly work on the creation of teaching aids.
During department’s existence, there have been developed and published programs on all the disciplines written in accordance with the didactic units of the State standard of the second generation. Multimedia lectures on all academic disciplines of the department have also been developed.
For the disciplines of the department there are constantly introduced some new forms and methods of teaching the students: for instance, as for the mathematics, a program for a teaching course is developed and implemented, including the development of students’ cognitive abilities. So, it is held on 22 seminars and numerous practical classes. A methodology of mathematics teaching based on the development of thinking, imagination, memory and attention is created. It doesn’t only improve the quality of learning material, but also significantly increases students' interest in learning.
In the 20-ies of the last century the first offices of medical control were created. In 1923, the scientific and medical department of the University was organized, soon after that, there followed the first department of scientific control. The theoretical foundations of discipline were established by the works of Russian scientists, in particular P. Lesgaft and V. Gorinevsky - the founders of the physical education science.
In 1925, the "Guide to Medical Control" by V. Gorinevsky and G. Birzin was published.
